Overview

The AXIS PRO is a professional digital inclinometer designed for aviation maintenance. It measures simultaneous pitch, roll, and yaw — the only tool of its kind to offer full 3-axis measurement including yaw — with a color touchscreen, angle target system, OTA firmware updates, and live phone mirroring.

ℹ️ These instructions cover firmware version 5.45.20. Always ensure your device is running the latest firmware before performing precision measurements. See OTA Firmware Updates.

Power On

  1. Press the power button once to power on the device.

  2. The AXIS PRO splash screen will appear briefly, followed by the main measurement display.

  3. Allow 5–10 seconds for the internal sensor to stabilize before taking measurements.

  4. To power off, press the power button again.

The device will automatically power off after 5 minutes of inactivity. To reset the timer, power the device off and back on.

Physical Controls

The AXIS PRO has one physical button — the power button. All other controls are operated via the touchscreen.

POWER

Press once to power on. Press again to power off.

ZERO (touchscreen)

Instantly zeros all three axes relative to the current position. Button turns red when active, and returns to normal when pressed again.

HOLD (touchscreen)

Freezes the current readings on screen. Button turns red when values are locked. Press again to resume live measurement.

MENU (touchscreen)

Opens the settings menu for access to angle targets, control deflections, sound settings, phone mirroring, and firmware updates.

Display Layout

The main screen displays all active measurements simultaneously:

Display AreaDescription
PITCHNose-up / nose-down angle in degrees. Positive = nose up.
ROLLLeft/right bank angle in degrees. Positive = right wing down.
YAW / RUDDERDisplays once selected from the home screen — shows heading rotation (Yaw) or rudder deflection (Rudder) depending on the selected mode.
Target IndicatorsYellow or green color indicators when angle targets are active on pitch or roll.
Battery GaugeLive charge level shown as an icon in the status bar.
Hold StateThe Hold button turns red when readings are frozen.

Measurement Modes

Pitch & Roll

Pitch and roll are measured simultaneously and displayed in real time. Both axes update continuously at the sensor's full sample rate. Use ZERO to reference any position as the baseline.

Typical applications: aircraft leveling, wing-tip leveling, stabilizer incidence, control surface rigging, weight and balance setup, and fuel calibration positioning.

Yaw / Rudder Mode

The third axis can operate in two modes, selectable directly from the home screen:

ModeUse Case
YAW Measures heading rotation about the vertical axis. Standard mode for general yaw measurement.
RUDDER Compensates for a raked (non-vertical) vertical stabilizer, providing accurate rudder deflection measurements referenced to the hinge line rather than true vertical.
When to use Rudder mode: If the aircraft's vertical stabilizer is raked (swept or angled forward/aft), measuring rudder throw in Yaw mode introduces geometric error. Switch to RUDDER mode to get deflection values that match the aircraft's flight manual limits.

Angle Target System

Set a target angle for pitch and/or roll. The AXIS PRO visually and audibly indicates when you are approaching and have reached the target — eliminating the need to watch the display while positioning the tool on the aircraft.

Visual Indicators

When a target angle is active, a color indicator appears for each configured axis:

Yellow — Approaching target (within the approach band)
Green — On target (within the tolerance zone)
Off — Outside approach band or no target set

The yellow zone acts as a visual cue as the angle closes on the target, allowing you to slow down and settle precisely. Once the reading enters the green zone the target angle has been met.

Audible Tones

When sound is enabled, tones correspond to the indicator state:

ToneMeaning
Intermittent beepApproaching target — yellow zone active. Beep rate increases as the angle closes on the target.
Continuous toneOn target — green zone active. Hold this position.
SilenceOutside the approach band, or sound is turned off.

Setting an Angle Target

  1. Press MENU and select Set Pitch to set a pitch target, Set Roll to set a roll target, or Manual to enter an angle directly.

  2. Select whether you also want a roll setpoint. The device returns to the home screen with the targets active.

  3. Yellow and green indicators — and audible tones if sound is on — will guide you to the target angle.

To clear a target, swipe right on the pitch or roll value on the home screen.
⚠️ Angle targets are referenced to the current zero position. If you press ZERO after setting a target, the target value is unchanged but is now measured from the new zero reference.

Sound Settings

Sound can be toggled on or off at any time. When off, all audible tones are suppressed. Visual indicators remain active regardless of the sound setting.

  1. Press MENU and navigate to Settings → Sound.

  2. Tap the toggle to switch sound On or Off.

  3. The setting saves automatically and persists across power cycles.

ℹ️ Sound is enabled by default. In noisy hangar environments, rely on the color indicators instead.

Zero & Hold

Zero

Press ZERO at any time to instantly set the current position as the reference for all three axes. All displayed values reset to 0.00°. The Zero button turns red to confirm it is active. Press again to return values and the button to normal.

Example: Place the AXIS PRO on a wing with the aircraft in a known level attitude, press ZERO, then measure the change in pitch or roll.

Hold

Press HOLD once to freeze all readings — the Hold button turns red to confirm values are locked. Press HOLD again to resume live measurement and the button returns to normal.

Example: Deflect a control surface to its travel limit, press HOLD, then record the angle from the display without losing the reading when you reposition.

Control Deflections

The AXIS PRO includes a guided control deflection workflow that walks you through each flight control, records all measurements, and generates a dated, signed PDF report — no clipboard or paper required.

Running the Workflow

  1. Press MENU and select Deflections.

  2. The device guides you through each flight control in sequence — follow the on-screen prompts to position and move each surface as instructed.

  3. Work through all flight controls. Measurements are recorded automatically as you go.

  4. When complete, an on-screen report is displayed showing all recorded deflection values.

⚠️ If you press Home during the workflow, a confirmation prompt will appear. Confirm to exit, or dismiss to return to the report. Powering off the device or navigating away from the screen will lose all recorded deflection data — complete the workflow and export the report before leaving the screen.

Exporting the Report

  1. From the on-screen report, press Export and follow the prompts.

  2. The device generates a PDF with a date and time stamp and the serial number of the unit.

  3. Fill in the aircraft information fields on the PDF and sign the bottom.

  4. Print or save the completed report for your records.

The exported PDF is a complete maintenance record — it includes all deflection values, the unit serial number, date/time, and space for aircraft information and a signature.

Phone Mirroring

Connect AXIS PRO to your phone over Wi-Fi to mirror live pitch, roll, and yaw readings. You can also trigger Zero and Hold remotely from your phone — useful when the device is in a hard-to-reach location on the aircraft.

  1. Press MENU and select Phone Mirror.

  2. On your phone, connect to the Wi-Fi network named AXIS-PRO-MIRROR.

  3. Open a browser on your phone and navigate to 192.168.4.1.

  4. The mirror interface loads automatically, showing live pitch, roll, and yaw.

  5. Use the on-screen ZERO and HOLD buttons to control the device remotely.

ℹ️ No app installation required. The interface runs in the phone's browser. Any smartphone or tablet with Wi-Fi works.

OTA Firmware Updates

AXIS PRO supports over-the-air firmware updates via Wi-Fi. No cables, computers, or service center required.

  1. Press MENU → Settings → Firmware Update.

  2. Follow the on-screen prompts.

  3. When prompted, open the firmware file browser and select your .bin file — or drag and drop it into the upload area.

  4. Press Upload. Do not power off the device during this process. The device will restart automatically when complete.

⚠️ Ensure battery level is above 20% before starting a firmware update. A power loss during an update may require factory service to recover.
